“There's like a little community of all these people who do the same thing. People that have gone through divorce or their husband is really sick. It is very therapeutic.”

Penny (center) says that when she first joined Girls Rock Detroit, she was put in a band with a group with kids she'd never met. "We actually kind of chose a silly name [for our band]. It was the Seven Bold Banana Slugs."

Cornelius started his time at Fired Up doing glassblowing, but moved over to stained glass work: “it allowed me to express my artistic side so much more."
